The rapper is mad at music industry

Kanye West posted a clip on Twitter of his Grammy in the toilet while peeing on it with the caption: “Trust me… I won’t stop”.

The clip comes after a massive tweetstorm against Universal Music claiming that they do not want to give him an assessment of how much his master copies are worth because “they know I can afford them”.

He is the latest among prominent artists to demand to own the rights to his original records or ‘masters’.

The rapper also claimed he had signed over 10 contracts with the label and that they had tried to “bury him alive”.

Kanye shared nearly 10 photos of several Universal Music contracts he has acquired claiming that he has received unfair contracts and wants “every lawyer in the world” to look through them.

He also tweeted at Taylor Swift asking that she support him to obtain his master copies.

Swift is involved in a legal fight with Justin Bieber’s manager (Scooter Braun) after he acquired Big Machine Records, a label she was signed to. Then she obtained immediate ownership of her master copies after she accused the record label of not allowing her to sing her old songs at an event since they owned the rights to the masters.

In a second tweet, West added: “When you sign a music deal you sign away your rights. Without the masters you can’t do anything with your own music”.

Most artists sign away their rights to an original record to a record label either for a set period of time or the length of copyright. Record companies can then license the use of music on streaming services, in films, ads, or other products.

West criticized Universal Records and Sony comparing the music industry to a slave ship. He also promised to not make new music under his current contract until he owns his masters.

The fight is underway!
